Okay for the Record, Delta Green is horror in the vein of the X-Files. So Jin did you like the X-Files, cuz that is what it's like.
I feel like elaborating on the Future Idea, so here I go.
Years are approximate and subject to change.
In early 2020's the genetic revolution gets into full swing various countries use technology of genetic manipulation to raise a series of super soldiers. By the end of the 21'st century most humans on the planet have benefited from some form of genetic manipulation, mostly from health and life extending techniques.
In 2150 a single wormhole is discovered on the outer reaches of the galaxy past pluto. The wormhole is stable one which reaches over 1000 light years into an empty sector of space, near nothing in particular. At first the wormhole is thought to be just a scientific curiousity. But using rapidly advancing technology in gravity manipulation the ability to create additional extentions of the wormhole becomes easy. Over the next 500 years humanity spreads through the universe using what becomes known as the "Webway" to connect the various colonies. Entering the webway is done by a large "Jump Gate" which uses fields of gravity to fold into the Wormhole extentions. Travel through the Webway takes only a few hours to go from one side of human space to the other. During this time humanity finds it is the lone intelligence in the stars. There are alien animals and plants, but nothing with a civilization. Also during this time genetic manipulation becomes more advanced, as people become modified to suit the colony they work on.
In 2650 an anti-technology cult, who views genetic manipulation, space travel, the webway etc, as evil and against god, hatch a plot to destroy the Webway by colapsing the wormhole (using a very advanced gravity bomb, the paradox of using advanced technology to destroy the Webway is ignored by them). The technology cult succeds in colapsing the original wormhole which sets of a massive chain reaction blowing up jump gates all over the universe. On the outer edge of human space, some pieces of the Webway manage to surivive, one of these places are what become known as the Nine Colonies.
The Nine Colonies find themselves in quite a prediciment after the destruction of the Webway. One colony is little more than a mining operation. Five others are simply farming colonies. One is a penal colony. Another is simply a tourist colony, which really isn't self suficient. The last colony is the only one which saves the others. As it has a limited industrial base, and was a corperatiate colony designed as engineering training, and technology think tank.
The Nine Colonies fall into a technological dark age, as the Nine Colonies barely hold on. Technology grinds to a halt, as no new spacefairing vessels are built, the old ones simply are refurbished on a constant basis. For over 9,000 years the Colonies simply grind through existance. Trying to maintain a fragile peace among each other. Eventually the Colonies get on their feet, and begin building technology again, learning how their aging spacecraft work, instead of puting almost quasi religious symbolism behind their referbishment.
After over 10,000 years on their own the Nine Colonies reach a technological breakthrough. Using the basis of Jump Gate technology and new theories in gravity manipulation, the Colonies create an artificial fold in space, and are able to teleport matter through it. The Colonies create a fleet of ships able to use these "Jump Drives" and set about exploring the universe 10,000 years after the destruction of the Webway.
Random ideas.
- There are no races, just different breeds of humans. The Mining Humans are strong and dumb, etc.
- The "Jump Drive" ships are small with a limited crew, for no other reason than I want the PC's to be the command crew of a ship, that would logically go out and explore like in Star Trek.
- The "Jump Drive" goes some insane distance, but it always takes 3 days to get there. This is just because it should be different than the Webway. You can have fun bottle adventures every now and then, while on the way to a different location. And so they cannot instantly get anywhere, and so help is always at least 3 days away.
