This recent Intelligent Design thing is starting to get me more and more steamed. I have been reading a rather fantastic book lately called "The Blind Watchmaker" by Richard Dawkins, which is an affermation of the Evolution process. I went on to Amazon recently to look over the reviews of this book, and it made me sick. There were basically two camps, creationists (and by creationists I mean fundimentalist christians), and Darwinists. The Creationists argued a whole lot of points about why this book was simply not true. From "he uses a lot of 'should be' 'a good bet's' etc. To "well it's obvious that god created the universe, and for believing in this book you are going to hell and quite possibly already possessed by a demon." To the really fun little shanty rhyme thingies like....

A watch cannot be made blind; the blind cannot be made to watch.
Therefore the world is designed, not dumb willy-nilly hopscotch.

To a lot of people who obviously hadn't read the book, because Dawkins covers a lot of the traditional ID strongholds (the Eye being the hugeist). To my personal favorate "You are just blindly following a theory." Without realizing what a HUGE hypocrite they are being... but I digress.

Here is why evolution is real people, and I double dog dare you to challenge me on this. The theory (yes theory because everything in science is a theory unless it's so freaking provable that you can't dispute it, like gravity always pulls you down. Nobody was around to watch Evolution so it is just a theory) of Evolution was created by science. Science is a system, a open system, where by a series of steps called the Scientific Method test things... you do remember your scientific method don't you.

1) Observation
2) Form a hypothesis
3) Perform experiements
4) Collect data and interpret

Science has given us a lot of really groovy things. Like the computer screen you are reading this rant from. The plastic that makes up the keyboard you are typing on. That comfy chair you are resting your ass on. Etc. Science has been applied to biology, and gotten a lot of interesting results. From Lamarckism, to Darwinism. However the theory that we can prove over and over again when it comes to biology is Darwinism. Now I dare anybody to say that science as a whole isn't true. If science and the scientific method are right in every other instance, from plastic, to wing shape that creates flight, to heart medication, why is it wrong in this one instance? Well two if your one of those that thinks carbon dating is hogwash.

Now people often mistake Darwinism for randomness which is not true, it's natural selection. A trait will be selected over other traits, and lead to more and more of those traits in future generations. Such as in a warm climate, the people with darker tan skin won't burn up in the sun and die of skin cancer. Thus more and more people with dark skin live to reproduce, and they pass on dark skin to their kids, and so on.

Anyhoo the scientific method doesn't work on Creationism. Why? Because it's not freaking true! Lets look at this...

1) Obervation, I'm here and thinking, why am I here and why am I created?
2) Hypthesis, well god must have created me.
3) Perform Experiments, well god is invisible, and according to some because Jesus was born isn't doing any miracles anymore. So there is no undeniable physical proof that god exists at all! However isn't it funny how in recent years bacteria have become more and more resistant to antibiotics, almost like bacteria who could survive antibiotics better have been allowed to reproduce because people don't take their full percrpition of antibiotics, and doctors over percribe them. It's almost like they have been selected naturally to survive in an antibiotic world. Weird huh?
4) Gather data. THe only proof that god exists is a really old book, and a bunch of people who swear he exists. Now I could side with them, but then I would be ignoring science which is just silly and egoistic.

Basically people the same scientific method which as brought you all this lovely technology that you Concervitive Christians just love raping the planet with, is the same scientific method that has been used to bring you evolution, and has disproved several other theories in the past. So if you really believe that god created you with his mojo and that Natural Selection is wrong, then you have to reject science totally because it all works together. And I doubt any of you will try and tell me that your car works because of gods will, and not overly priced gasoline pumped through your internal combustion engine. Or for that matter the same biological science that perhaps produces your heart medication, or viagra. If it was gods will that you die of a heart attack, because that is what he programed you with when god created you, who the fuck are you to give your finger to god and use this completely wrong biological science to prolong your life. You can't reject one piece of science, and not reject all of it. It is all or nothing! Oh and that is completely ignoring the astronomical amount of proof that evolution occurs (besides a few small gaps which cannot be explained currently that you creationists latch on to and try to tear down the whole system with, and if you wanna play that game with me I can think of several small gaps in the bible & with Christanity that I can use to tear down your whole system). Anyhoo jeez I guess my point is it is not the schools job to teach your or my children faith in a greater intelligent designer, it is your job parents! If you want your children to believe in that take them to church yourself. Don't buy them "Grand Theft Auto San Andraus" and only find out it is a horribly violent and sexual game from the news nearly a year after it's release. It is not the tax payers responcibility to teach your children faith at all, it is the states responcibility to teach the kids cold hard science so we can stay ahead of the curve in science related matters. The simple fact we are falling behind on cloning tech, robotics, and several other key scientific feilds shows that we are falling behind in the sciences. Faith is a parents job, not mine and not the governments!
